This series visually shows some of the sexist things I have been told since my entering into the professional workplace almost a year ago. The re-creations are in situations similar to when and where they actually occurred.
These images are on a spectrum of sexism, some more overt than others. It is interesting to see how some people don’t realize what they say can be demeaning. The little things, those micro-aggressions, add up. The questioning of your capabilities, and discrediting your authority subtly, they make you feel unwelcome.
I am not playing the victim. I do not cry myself to sleep over what people say. These are just my experiences, and I recognize that some people have it worse. Nevertheless, I am channeling my anger about these comments into a photo series, in hopes this is a way to have a discussion about stopping them from happening again to everyone.
